Degen Generation Is Now Free on YouTube, and Here’s Why That Matters

Big one today: all episodes of Degen Generation are now live on YouTube, free to watch.

If you don’t know the series yet, here’s the pitch: Tom Gillespie launches his own memecoin, travels across Europe chasing the DeFi rabbit hole, and documents what “Degen” culture actually looks like from the inside. Not the sanitized version. The real one, warts and all.

Why we’re doing this

Degen Generation has been a paid, ad-free product on Indikin since it launched, and that hasn’t changed in terms of what’s available there. What’s changed is that we’re now also putting the full series up on YouTube, free, to see if we can grow the audience and monetize it there too.

That’s the honest reason. We want more eyes on this series, and YouTube is where a lot of those eyes already are.

The paywall problem, and why we’re doing it anyway

Same conversation we had with Hexicans, worth having again here. Degen Generation costs real money and real time to make, and giving it away for free everywhere isn’t a sustainable way to fund the next one. So we’re keeping the paid, ad-free version on Indikin running exactly as it was, and now adding a free, ad-supported version on YouTube alongside it.

Nobody’s forced into a paywall. You can watch the whole thing free on YouTube with ads, no hard feelings. Or you can watch it ad-free on Indikin, and know that cost goes straight back into funding what Bitjoin makes next.

There’s also a third option worth knowing about: if you go through Tom’s personal link on Indikin, half of what you pay goes directly to him. So if you rate what he put himself through to make this series, that’s the most direct way to back him specifically, not just the studio.

This one’s personal for Tom

Hexicans was a series about a community. Degen Generation is a series about one person walking straight into the thing everyone warns you about, on camera, with his own money and his own coin on the line. That’s a different kind of risk, and it deserves a different kind of support.
